Lubrication Mechanism of Surface‐Attached Hydrogel Layers in Sliding Contact

نویسندگان

چکیده

Swollen, surface-attached hydrogel layers in sliding contact exhibit unusual friction properties. To study this phenomenon, covalently bonded to solid substrates are generated by CH insertion crosslinking. Brief UV irradiation of thin photoreactive prepolymers leads simultaneous crosslinking the polymer chains and attachment network substrate. As can only swell perpendicular surface, subchains on two sides pair cannot interpenetrate for entropic reasons, adhesion such pairs is negligible. In work, tribological behavior investigated as a function load velocity. It observed that very films, indentation accordingly strong film thickness role chain confinement lubrication hydrogels discussed. A model mechanism systems developed.

Lubrication of Sliding Bearings for Hydropower Applications

The influence of pad facing material on hydrodynamic lubrication in tilting-pad thrustbearings is investigated in terms of pad and oil-film temperatures and oil-film thickness. Two tilting-pad thrust bearings are examined: one with babbitt pad facing, the other with a layer of a PTFE based composite material. Frictional torque, pad, collar and oil-film temperatures and oil-film thicknes...

Investigation of Liquefaction Mechanism and Displacement in Buried Sand Layers

One of the most important reasons for damages during earthquakes is the liquefaction of loose and saturated sand soils. However, in many regions with proper soil specifications, the large settlements have been observed in the ground surface. Loose sand layers buried in fine soils are one of the cases which may result in these problems and as a weak point during earthquake can cause this phenome...

Lubricity of Surface Hydrogel Layers

Many biological interfaces provide low friction aqueous lubrication through the generation and maintenance of a high water content polymeric surface gel. The lubricity of such gels is often attributed to their high water content, high water permeability, low elastic modulus, and their ability to promote a water film at the sliding interface. Such biological systems are frequently characterized ...
